HOME OF BRADLEY BASEBALL
Originally opening as O’Brien Field on May 24, 2002, the Dozer Park is home to the Peoria Chiefs, the Midwest League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, as well as Bradley University’s college baseball team. The stadium replaced the Chiefs’ former home at Meinen Field and quickly became a centerpiece for sports and community events in the area.
Construction on the $23 million facility began in August 2001, with the park officially opening less than a year later. It initially bore the name of O'Brien Auto Team, the original naming rights sponsor. In 2013, Caterpillar Inc. stepped in with a $2 million naming rights deal, and the stadium was aptly renamed Dozer Park, a nod to the company’s iconic bulldozers. That same year, the team and venue underwent a major financial restructuring, which included city debt forgiveness and new investment from local ownership.
The playing surface at Dozer Park is just as impressive as its architecture. Designed for optimal drainage and performance, the field features an advanced 8-inch sand and Dakota peat root zone atop 6 inches of gravel with an extensive drainage system. This allows the field to handle up to five inches of rain per hour. The clay-rich pitcher’s mound and batter’s boxes offer durability, while the daily mowing and specialized care reflect the park’s commitment to professional-grade maintenance.
